The
MOVE 9
imprisoned since 1978

Their parole hearings are coming up in August 2008

THEY NEED
YOUR HELP

Merle died in prison
in 1988 under
suspicious
circumstances

In June and July 2007, MOVE minister of communication Ramona Africa and her comrade Fred came and toured social centres in the UK. The tour created controvery, spread information and raised awareness about MOVE.

One of the reasons Ramona came was to highlight the cases of the MOVE 9 who have been held in American prisons since 1978 ... finally after 30 years in jail they will be eligible for parole in August 2008 ... but they need our help!

As Ramona might say herself ... you are hallucinating if you think the authorities want to release them.

The only way they will ever be released is if people like us, make the American authorities realise that the eyes of the world are on them ... you may be skeptical about how much effect this will have ... but remember Mumia Abu-Jamal would have been executed by now if people hadn't kept fighting his cause.

HELP THE MOVE 9

Below are links to 3 sample letters ... one to the District Attorney, one to the Parole Board and one to the Governor ... please use them as templates for your letters, but remember a personalised letter carries more weight than a pro-forma one like these.

Members of MOVE

In June this year Ramona Africa will be touring the country to tell the people about the incredible story of the trials and tribulations of her family - MOVE.

MOVE is a revolutionary organisation set up in USA that fights to protect all life by spreading information and standing against the systems that harm life.

They were strident anti-racism and environmental campaigners long before the mainstream took up the issues. In their on words: "The word MOVE is not an acronym. It means exactly what it says: MOVE, work, generate, be active. Everything that's alive moves. If it didn't, it would be stagnant, dead. Movement is the principle of Life."

Because of their unequivocal stance they have been constantly persecuted by the system. The persecution went from beatings, to armed attacks to eventually bombing their homes.

The MOVE 9
imprisoned for almost 30 years

The MOVE 9 (Merle Africa was one of the 9 but she died in prison in 1988) are innocent people who have been incarcerated since 1978 when 600 armed officers raided their home. In the hail of bullets that went into the house one officer was killed and they were framed for it and denied a fair trial - they were even banned from attending their own trial for "contempt of court" because they insisted on defending themselves.

Mumia Abu-Jamal
26 years on death row

Mumia Abu-Jamal is a MOVE supporter who also has experienced the injustice of the system whilst spending over 26 years on death row for a crime he did not commit.

The MOVE house ... police dropped
3 fire bombs from helicopters

Ramona Africa was the only adult survivor of an attack on her family home on May 13th 1985 when the police shot 10,000 rounds of ammo, dropped 3 firebombs on the house and then shot at those who tried to escape. 11 members of her family were killed including 5 children.
